I am ambitious. But in almost every other respect,
I am the opposite of the archetypal Silicon Valley entrepreneur.
I am allergic to bullshit, risk averse, introspective, have no interest in “going big or going home”, and when it comes to Sublime, I think of it less as running a business
and more as making art — the art just happens to be software.
The world would be better if there were more software companies focused on quality, craftsmanship and longevity.
I’m still wrestling with how to coherently describe what I mean — and to be clear, this is very aspirational — but here’s my moodboard for building a business.
Love this so much.
People forget business is art. It’s worldbuilding. It’s expressing yourself through creating a living thing; an organism that comes with a culture and an identity.
Being able to treat it that way makes the journey infinitely more enjoyable. The ‘hustle to get rich quick’ business is the least inspired, least interesting world you could build.
